“Struggling” by Old Man Markley
Before I had a chance to really listen to these guys or see them live, I admit I was pretty skeptical. Fat Mike’s country bluegrass protege that he seems to bring on most of his tours with NOFX…that just sounds bizarre as it is. Luckily I had a chance to see these guys (gals) a few weeks ago with NOFX, Anti-Flag, and some random band from Florida that sounded like NOFX. I’ll put it plain and simple: Old Man Markley put on a hell of a show, full with autoharp, fiddle, awesome washboard, and some killer banjo playing. Gang vocals with bluegrass? You bet. What they reminded me of was new-ish Social Distortion mixed with energy of Flogging Molly and with a side of…ah what the hell I know nothing about country music. Can’t really make any comparisons. Either way check these guys out, if not just for the sake of trying something different!
